1. I got your answer right here: because it was there! Ok, maybe that’s a bit too summarized. How about this:

   a) cookies taste good
   b) sugar(and refined carbs in general)are addictive
   c) the barrier to eating was very low - just a walk to the kitchen.

   You can’t really control a and b as they are just facts of nature, but you can change c and not keep such tempting stuff in the house. I know your wife may want to eat them, but maybe she can keep a secret stash somewhere? Otherwise she could always sacrifice so that you don’t have to deal with the temptation at least while you’re home?
